Why is intermediate different to a full primary school

Because being in intermediate is better than primary. The difference is in Primary it's hard to focus on what you want to be when you grow up and when you study in primary school, you won't learn things that we need to learn in college. And plus you get to try new things and you can learn more stuff in intermediate than primary.You can also learn things like cooking,woodworks,music and art. So we think that intermediate is a better opportunity to learn a lot more stuff for your life.

well here it is...

There are more opportunitinies to learn and discover new things! Wow, isn't that great?! I cannot believe it!!! Can you??? Well of course you can... did you know that somebody disagrees with me communicating with you? THAT'S RIGHT YOU! WHO ELSE IS THERE BUT YOU!!! THE ONE AND ONLY U IN THE ALPHABET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We can learn and have fun at the same time, but remember,... great power comes great responsibility, just like Spiderman's grandpa or grandma said.

Its a wonderful thing to learn....and I think its much better at a sepparate intermediate than a full primary school. There are more opportunities...like learning stuff to do with home economics, well.... TATA for now!!!

This last 2 weeks in room 3 have been great. We just want to say that we think room 3 is funniest class ever. Since we are year 7's we are one of the new one's in class. Sometimes our class could be noisy :). That's all we want to say.... Have a great year!!!!!

I have been thinking that I'm not great at making regular contributions to this blog and yet we ask our kids to blog and reflect regularly. Over the past couple of years the comment has been made that I might possibly spend too much time reflecting on my day, but I can see there would be value in having our students contribute to this blog. They blog within the school's LMS, but it would be great for them to share their thoughts and opinions on this blog. I know that was always the intention so we just need to make it happen.

Spartans, Romans and Vikings

Our plan for this year had always been to try and cater as best as we can in Huia for our students' preferred learning styles. The decision to do this was affirmed for me today when I was teaching the Spartans for Maths. Knowing that this is a group of students who need to move around, are generally loud and have a preference for hands-on activities I finished the lesson thinking that it had been one of the most enjoyable lessons of the year. Of course the kids may have a different opinion!

Learning at School

Having spent most of last week in Rotorua at the Learning at School conference I have come back with lots of great ideas and I am looking forward to implementing many of these over the next few weeks. Some of the ideas we are hoping to implement very soon are e-portfolios (this will be trialled in Huia Syndicate), creating animations with Marvin and hopefully creating a T.V. studio.

It is always good to listen to people who are experts in their field and to come away knowing that there is a real life application to most of what they have spoken about. I also really enjoyed seeing what other schools are doing and having it confirmed that we are a lot further down the path of embedding I.C.T. into our classroom than many other schools. I also attended a number of breakouts learning about SOLO taxonomy and will be trying to use this in my classroom.

Thursday afternoon

It was a bit disappointing that we couldn't trust the weather enough to have our picnic lunch and play in the park today, but the kids did get to go to the pool. (We'll have the picnic and play another day.)
It was good to see everyone having a good time and relaxing after all the the assessments we have been doing at school. It made Mr. Tolley and I think that it might be a good thing to do again in the future. We could combine the P.E. session from either Wednesday or Friday with Thursday afternoon's session. What do you think?
We're grateful to the parents who came, and enjoyed meeting and talking with them.

We were also very pleased to meet the parents who came in the evening. It is good hear so much positive feedback about our syndicate.

Getting our heads around blogging

Blogging is going to be a great learning experience for us all. I'm hesitant to write what's in my head, but want the students to do this so I'd better get my head around the idea of sharing my thoughts online. I wonder how Mrs. Moran also feels about this?

I was just looking at the little buttons to add videos and images, but I digress. I think I will introduce this site to my class tomorrow to see if we can start regular blogs. They may even be able to tell me how we can keep each students' blog separate. I generally find that when all else fails, I can ask a 10-13 year old and come away with some new knowledge.
